Workshop 222-B
Writing in the English Language - Idioms, Clichˇs, Jargon and Jive

This comprehensive course will cover the diversity of 21st century English vernacular. The student will learn to speak, write
and understand such obscure terms as "Boo-yah!!", "Death Cab for Cutie" and "microchip."

A goal will be for participants to learn to write contemporary dialogue
for period dramas, as was done so wonderfully in A Knight's Tale, and more recently for Cate Blanchett in Elizabeth: The Golden Age.
An interesting sidenote: one of our graduates helped ghostwrite a few scenes for Beowulf, and we all agree that the line "I come to slay the
monster, not just for me. . . but for my homies." will be a classic in this genre.

Workshop SL 32
Punctuation: Pitfall or DISASTER!

Our expert panel will guide you through the professional minefield that is punctuation. Calling on real world examples from the actual shooting scripts of
Benny Hill, you will come to the realization that punctuation isn't everything, it is the only thing. Meaning can be altered irrevocably by a simple comma and a space, i.e.:

"What's that in the road ahead?" vs. "What's that in the road, a head?"

or even change professions (impressions, confessions) on a sign, i.e. again:

"Therapist" vs. "The rapist"

Also covered will be the use of the ellipsis . . . or maybe not. There will be an additional charge for laboratory materials.
